The class of energy consumption, also known as energy efficiency class, is a subdivision of the scale of consumption of household appliances regulated by the European Union. It indicates precisely the annual consumption expressed in kWh of an appliance as letters from A + + to G.

After more than a year after its entry into force (19 June 2010), recently (21 July 2011) became mandatory for all EU Member States to apply the provisions in the EU Directive 2010/30. Fields of application:

If the label is in fact so far been applied only to refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers, ovens and air conditioners, now it will be mandatory for all products which have a significant direct or indirect impact on energy consumption.

Introduction of new energy classes:

Another important change in the number of energy classes. At present seven (A to G) were adds three additional classes: A +, A + + and A + + +. In economic terms, choose an appliance class A +, A + + and A + + + means you benefit from additional savings compared to a device of the class A.

Obligations for retail stores:

In the European Union the sellers have the obligation to show the label next to each appliance, clearly indicating which class you place the model on sale (Directive 92/75/EC). The new classes will therefore be applied to a greater range of products, except for some types of air conditioners.

The reason is to be found in the publication of Regulation no. 626/2011 (integration of the Directive) which will apply with effect from 1 January 2013, the type of air conditioners air / air with an output power of cooling / heating up to 12 KW. Depending on the type of air conditioner and according to the diagrams in the Regulations, the application of the label will be done in a gradual manner.

The new labels will take into account both the energy efficiency index seasonal (SEER value) that the seasonal coefficient of performance (SCOP value). Also, take into consideration the annual energy consumption in kWh / year for heating and cooling and also of sound power levels of indoor and outdoor units (expressed in dB (A) re1 pW).
