Lithium battery in the near future: super powerful, fast charging

The energy storage devices, more conventionally known to all as 'batteries', especially those able to provide high power, have many applications in everyday life, from laptops, to mobile phones, up to the hybrid vehicles and well as in renewable energy.

For this reason, a team of scientists from the National Institute of Science and Technology of Ulsan (UNIST), Korea, has been working for some time to the development of a lithium-ion battery with charging capability in a very short time: according to the first experimental data, the new battery is ricaricherebbe from 30 to 120 times faster than the lithium-ion battery 'traditional' already in circulation on the market.

In fact, these batteries are already smaller and lighter, more efficient and faster than the conventional ones but the new technology, according to scientists, could reduce the charging time ... even less than a minute!

According to the official document of the ongoing research, published in 'Nature Nanotechnology', the prototype was carried out by immersing the Korean standard component of the battery, ie the lithium manganese oxide (LMO) in a solution containing graphite.

Through a process of carbonization, the latter, impregnated LMO, it turns into a dense network of conductive traces that run through the cathode. The networks of graphite carbonized thus formed act as effectively to recharge capillary, like our blood vessels, each part of the battery at the same time, at an unprecedented pace.

Of course, recharge these batteries with ultra-fast, despite being destined for a successful species on the electric vehicle market today penalized by very long charging times, a technology are still in the experimental stage and, therefore, too much care: impossible assume the time (which still do not seem shorter) to putting them on the market.

But that dream (and energy saving!) To even imagine, one day, to be able to recharge their pc or mobile phone in seconds and have an electric car that starts after charging in minutes!
