Strong Growth e-commerce in Italy in 2012

There are few industries that grow in the Italy of the crisis, one of these and e-commerce. Compared with a year ago, in fact active users grew 11% reaching € 10 million and it is expected a growth of electronic commerce by 18% by year-end, with a turnover of around 9.5 billion euro. Well even the data on exports which grew by 21% year on year to an amount that is expected to exceed 1.6 billion at year-end euro. These are some of the data presented at the seventh edition of the Netcomm eCommerce Forum, on the basis of studies conducted by the Observatory B2C eCommerce Netcomm-School of Management of Politecnico di Milano.

The positive figures put the e-commerce as a resource for the country and for the digital economy, not for nothing is one of the key points of the Digital immediately behind the development of broadband, for which the Government has asked also an exception to the Fiscal Compact.

The E-commerce resists the crisis grows and is a resource for the country, but the gap that separates us from the more advanced countries of Europe is still huge and so is the digital divide in terms of computer literacy. Regarding the use of the network, Italians accessing the Internet in the age group between 55 and 74 years are 22%, compared with a European average of 40%, those between 25 and 54 years are 60%, against an average of 76%, those between 16 and 34 years were 81%, compared with an average of 91%.

Well, we're back for every age group and this has implications for the development of the digital economy. We're back, as we said also in terms of online shopping, in fact, only 15% of Italians who surf buy on e-commerce, almost a third of the European average (43%). This is due to several factors from poor digital experience that leads to distrust social aspects such as limited use of electronic payment instruments.

Despite that users who buy on e-commerce claim to appreciate the experience, for economic advantage, for easy retrieval of the products, the choice and the opportunity to shop in different times of the day. Eight out of ten users, called to make judgments on their own experience in the world of online shopping e-commerce have assigned a rating above 7.

It is interesting to note that about 60% of the sample declared to resort to third-party advice for online purchases, especially sought after among social media. Among the products for which you are seeking advice especially those related to tourism, telephone and online services. While searching for information is uncommon as regards books and clothing.

In any case, the read positive feedback from other users on the network or on our e-commerce is a drive that has a positive effect on the acquisition, as well as free shipping costs, the presence of tenders or having found the product in a price comparison site.
