Agreement reached between UNI and ITHACA for sustainable building

ITHACA UNI and sign the protocol on the evaluation of environmental sustainability and energy efficiency of buildings.

The signing of the agreement, to be followed by the drafting of a "reference practices" that will have the seal of UNI, is carried out as part of MADE Expo, the international fair of architecture and construction.

The purpose of the Protocol, signed by the President and the President of UNI Piero Tower of Ugo Cavallera ITHACA, is, first, to reunify into a single reference document the different approaches and experiences of certification of environmental sustainability of buildings developed over the years, the Regions with reference to the "Protocol ITHACA."

The system, which began about ten years ago, it was used by the Regions in accordance with criteria and modalities. Articulated by the application of the Protocol, declined from different regions, it is useful ACHIEVE today to a consolidation of the system unit and national Ithaca.

The document, the result of the agreement signed by UNI and ITHACA, therefore represent the national reference (based on their own national peculiarities of the sector) for the assessment of energy and environmental sustainability of buildings, not just residential, but also offices, schools, industrial and commercial.

The intent is to cover all types of buildings most representative. "Using the tools available today - says Piero Tower, President of UNI - We verified the absence of national, European and international standards on the subject and given the need to give quick response to the market, we decided to consolidate the topic into a" practice Reference " normative document - that is before the law - which can be presented and supported by a single entity, and which could be drawn open to all those who have an interest in the subject. A system lean and fast and does not replace the standard but that is a practice of reference that would provide all the knowledge of the way in which it is a given matter. "

"Today, in terms of sustainability, there is need to find points of convergence that meet all stakeholders in the industry - continues Tower - The building sustainability includes several aspects, from the environmental to the social and economic, of which some are already defined by law, as in the case of energy efficiency, others have yet to find a definition. "

"The signing of the Protocol is the first step for the insertion of the Protocol ITHACA in the family UNI - says Ugo Cavallera, President of ITHACA - the protocol will be a useful reference for the regulation of the economy of the country: Italy has assets building widespread, but critical from the point of view of energy efficiency and quality. With the agreement signed today will come quickly even at a UNI for the protection of the production cycle and the consumer, with benefits for the whole country. "

The practice of UNI-ITHACA, is part of the path already traced by the European Regulation 305/2011 on construction products, approved in January 2011 by the European Parliament. The Regulation has immediate application in the Member States, although some provisions it contains will be valid from July 2013 to allow time for governments to adapt. Among the novelties of this regulation, there is a greater commitment to protecting the environment and public health, with particular attention to the sustainable use of resources in the process of realization of construction products.
