Increase the spread of smartphones and tablets in companies

Increase the number of workers in the workplace brings with it, and used for professional purposes, the latest generation of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

This is confirmed by a survey of Accenture and Trend Micro. They were taken to sample approximately 4,000 employees, belonging to 16 countries on 5 continents, and more than 300 business executives.

45% of employees said without hesitation their preference for personal devices - with a lot of applications and software in tow - than the tools offered by the company. In short, with smartphones and tablets will work better. The largest number of employees that uses 'personal platforms' is located in emerging countries. In China, India, Brazil, etc. 40% of employees have made this choice. The percentage drops to 20% among the employees of the so-called advanced countries.

However, managers are to use more than any other their own devices to work. It does 54% of them.

What do you think the top management of this prominence of smartphones and tablets? A lot of good: 88% consider new technologies as a resource for the company and an important vehicle for job satisfaction for workers. Unfortunately, this does not translate into corporate policies that integrate the personal tools to those offered by the enterprise. Only 27% of companies governs the use of the device of personal property. The rest does not endorse or simply turn a blind eye.

The indifference and superficiality can cause heavy damage in these cases. Without proper regulation, the staff may be subject to data theft or piracy various fairly common sight of the strategic effectiveness of an illegal activity which industrial espionage. This is about the security company. A demonstration of this comes from a survey (always the Accenture and Trend Micro) survey of 850 decision makers from the UK, Germany and the United States: among the companies that allow the use of personal devices to employees, 50% have suffered security breaches.

The same problem involves a different trend, but contiguous. More and more workers, in fact, use social networks in the workplace (at least officially for professional purposes). In the past, access to Facebook and co. was universally seen as a source of distraction, companies are now changing their minds. In 2010, according to a study by Gartner, 50% of companies banned the use of social, but it is expected that by 2014 the percentage will fall to 30%. In particular, social networks are often considered more and more often, as an opportunity, since it speeds up the reports and make them less formal.

The solution is the integration of a solid technical infrastructure capable of protecting the data in order to address the phenomenon and wash them away from these annoying and sometimes fatal, side effects.
