Buy new PC: better custom or pre-assembly (OEM)?

When you decide to buy a new computer, you can go in two kinds of shops: the mall and or you can go to a store a bit 'smaller selling pc assembando selected pieces.

The mall sells computers of so-called OEM (original equipment manufacturer) that the personal computer manufacturers pre-installed and pre-assembled (like Asus, HP, Dell, Acer, etc.) while the computer stores sell parts individually and offer the service to assemble and mount depending on the required specifications.

Tend you could say that, people less informed about computers and therefore less expert in computer science, prefer to buy OEM pc at the mall while those who have more technical experience rather choose computer systems, trying to combine together the best pieces of hardware.

However, there are many other factors that may guide the choice from a verse to another: the price, the warranty, technical support, transparency of what you buy but none is more important than his own subjective preferences.

Let us see what are the main differences between a desktop pre-configured by an OEM, the kind you buy at the mall and a custom pc with the choice of the individual parts (video card, hard drive, CPU, etc.).

1) I prefer the less experienced pc preconfigured why, who's going to buy the computers at the mall, generally takes a device that you just plug it in and turn it on to get it up and running quickly and running without having to do any configuration process.

Unfortunately, the computer is a machine that needs to run instructions and there is always something to fix and set better.

You have to think that Windows is an operating system that, by default, is configured to work well and in a stable manner, on any computer, even if composed of parts from different manufacturers.

It is doubtful that the default configuration of Windows is the best for your computer and bought for the use made of it.

Any pc so it needs manual intervention initial configuration and ongoing maintenance, whether OEM or not.

2) It must be said also that many people are easily influenced by the brand believes, therefore, that if you buy a branded computer from HP, Acer or other OEM famous, is better than the one on the houses where there are no stickers or marks.

I would not want to disappoint anyone, but things are not exactly so.

A computer is always a PC assembled with different parts and OEM is none other than the dealer, one who chose the hardware parts based on performance, stability and price.

3) The assembler provides an OEM PC ready with the Windows operating system already configured for the average user and with several other pre-installed programs, often commercial, trial version or promotion, which are then purchased later.

Probably no one would buy a program like Nero or McAfee antivirus seen that there are many free alternatives even better but since they are often pre-installed on computers, less informed buyers could be pushed to buy.

On the other hand, the personal computer is often sold (not sure if it is a custom Italian) with a pirated operating system that sooner or later ask you to buy the license (this partly justifies the higher cost of a computer is already configured) .

This obviously depends on the honesty of the shop manager computer that, if professional should always ask if you want to also install regular Windows (paying) or if you want a computer virgin to install from scratch (as I like many ).

4) The search for compatible components for a better PC, perhaps with the assistance of the seller, it is definitely is a great way to learn how a computer works and then learn.

When you walk into a computer store and talk with the manager you will certainly receive more help and information is credible but rather, it is called when you talk to a salesperson often unmotivated and underpaid who has learned to communicate technical features like a poem .

5) OEM pre-assembled PCs are built with a general purpose in mind, and with the same performance, are more expensive is because there is always the Windows operating system with regular license, either because a warranty on the machine and a general contract assistance or customer support.

For a personalized custom pc instead there are different conditions although, in general, those who sell them computer then adjusts its guarantee should also be rest assured.

An important difference, and decisive in this comparison is that if you change one piece in a pre-assembled PC (for example, to update the graphics card), you may void the warranty, which is not the case if you ever make hardware changes in one pc customized.

When you create a custom machine, each component is (or should be) covered by an individual guarantee.

The downside, however, is that the search for warranty coverage for a single component often means having to send to the manufacturer and wait for the refund for this, as mentioned above, it becomes important to establish a relationship of trust with the vendor and ensure that it is he himself who make repairs.

6) In the event that you wanted to buy a computer to play at peak performance, then I would certainly recommend a PC configured individually with careful choice of the pieces and the video card.

In fact, when you buy a PC at the mall, it almost certainly has pieces of hardware outputs the year before that, therefore, may not have the performance to play at the highest level of detail to the last game came out.

The price of a computer to play video games is always very high, and in one case than the other.

8) Concerning the price, one could say that the PC pre-installed mall costs less than the sum of the pieces that make up the personal computer.

It should be noted that the computer OEM brand is built using a criterion of economy then, almost certainly, mounts older pieces.

The higher price of computer systems with new hardware may cost more but provides greater durability and is not likely to become obsolete after one year.

In fact, a custom car is able to give better performance at a lower cost.

8) If the intention is only to surf the internet, write Word documents, watch movies and listen to music, then I would not recommend a custom pc but one pre-assembled and installed, bought with an offer flyer at the mall, without being too behind the technical details.
